Heaven Sent
When I first started writing, the house “Heaven Sent” resonated deeply with me. It was a place fundamentally about family, having seen more than twelve generations of the Devereaux family born, live, and die within its walls. I loved the concept of weaving family history into the very fabric of a story, creating a tapestry of existence that echoes through the walls and corridors of this beloved home. This gave me the opportunity to not only write about the current generation but also delve into the lives of its past occupants.
From this inspiration, the town of Sweetheart Falls was born. Founded in the 18th century by the builder of Heaven Sent, Sweetheart Falls became a thriving community over the centuries. The falls themselves, where Jacques and Carlotta first married, became a cherished site for generations of Devereaux descendants and other townsfolk to celebrate their unions.
For me, Sweetheart Falls screams romance and happily ever after, embodying the love and friendship we need today. This fictitious town, based in upstate New York near the Canadian border, is fashioned after a traditional small rural town in the US. Bringing it to life has been a joyful experience, and I’m excited to share it with you.

Spring in Sweetheart Falls is celebrated with a delightful Tulip Festival, painting the town in vibrant colors. Come fall, the Pumpkin Festival brings warmth and cheer, celebrating the harvest season. During the holiday season, the Devereaux family organizes food parcels and gift hampers for the townsfolk, fostering a strong sense of community.
The Falls themselves are a breathtaking natural wonder, nestled in the midst of a forest just outside the town. This magical spot draws couples seeking a romantic escape and families looking for a perfect picnic setting. With its welcoming atmosphere and enchanting beauty, Sweetheart Falls is a place where memories are made and love stories unfold.
